The first quarter was a mixed bag for the PC industry in the US as manufacturers responded to supply constraints, inflation, hybrid work and a shift towards purchasing from commercial customers, amid weaker demand from consumers and the education market. US shipments of desktops, notebooks and workstations were down 14% year on year to 19.5 million units, according to Q1 2022 PC shipments figure from Canalys. The biggest winners were Apple and Dell, whereas both HP and Lenovo saw a slowdown in Chromebook shipments....

Fixing the new HTC One is easier than its predecessor, iFixit says, but the One M8 is still a terrible patient for non-factory fixes. The device earned an incredibly low score of 2 out of 10 on iFixit’s repairability scale. Speaking with ZDNet, the organisation’s CEO, Corey Tutt, unpacked the severity of the STEM gap experienced by remote Indigenous communities in Australia. Tutt, a Gamilaraay man and NSW Young Australian of the Year in 2019, explained that remote Indigenous communities are not encouraged to focus on STEM and lack the basic resources that are commonly available in urban communities. “Resources as basic as Lego, technology books, and telescopes are not available in most of these communities,” Tutt told ZDNet....
