Similar to how the United States has the FCC, China has their own regulatory board that has to approve devices before they can be sold on the local market. Photos of two unannounced HTC devices simply called the 7060 and 7088 have surfaced on said Chinese regulator’s website. For all intents and purposes, they’re the same phone, except that the latter is configured to support TD-SCDMA while the former uses WCDMA technology.
So what’s under the hood? According to the Japanese website Blog of Mobile, which has a tendency to be right more often than not, you can expect a 5.0 inch 720p display, quad core 1.2 GHz processor (further details unknown), 1 GB of RAM, 8 megapixel camera, and it’ll run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. While it’s a bit odd to see that Android 4.1 phone spec in there, everything else lines up. This phone is pretty much just a big version of the HTC One mini, which sounds a bit hard to comprehend, so let me put it another way: It’s the 4.3 inch phone that HTC tweaked to make cheaper, except now it’s even more cheaper because using a 5.0 inch 720p panel is less expensive than using a 4.3 inch 720p panel. When will this thing be announced and how much will it cost? No clue, but if I had to guess, going by the 7060 and 7088 product names, I’d say this is some sort of Desire 700 series phone, so it come in at under 300 Euros. Update: Actually, I’ve changed my mind. This thing is basically a cheap version of the Butterfly s, not a bigger version of the One Mini. That might be an easier way to understand it. Emphasis on might.
