Well, Microsoft has killed Windows Movie Maker and introduced another free video editing software which is known as Story Remix. However, Google recorded over 100 million searches for the keywords “Movie Maker” and “Windows Movie Maker” Well, Windows Movie Maker saw its last stable release in the year 2012 and now it was completely removed from the Microsoft’s download website. However, if you search for Windows Movie Maker on Google, you will find some scam links.

The latest Movie Maker scam was first discovered by security firm ESET, it mentioned the latest Movie Maker Scam as the third largest threat they have monitored worldwide on November 5, the threat was identified as Win32/Hoax.MovieMaker. ESET’s telemetry also recorded detections in Israel, Denmark, Philippines, and Finland. If you search on Google “Movie Maker” you will find a website “www(dot)windows-maker(dot)org”. Now, whenever users try to save a file using the scam software, it asks a $30 upgrade free for the full version. If you click on the “Buy Now” button, you will be redirected to a webpage where you realize you have been given a discount of 25%. However, the scam software doesn’t put any malware or lock computers. ESET has already informed Microsoft and Google about the fake Windows Movie Maker scam campaign. Microsoft in return had released a statement in which they mentioned “As always, we recommend customers use caution when downloading apps or programs from sites that aren’t known or reputable” If you have already downloaded the scan Windows Movie Maker app then uninstall it as soon as possible.
