Good rear camera, sensational selfie snapper
The camera app is simple and a little iOS-ish, but with many more options. Quick to launch, swiping right will take you to the videos, and swiping left would take you to the beauty mode and panorama. There is an option to bring up the filters galore as well. Up on top are the HDR options, portrait mode, Live Picture and other modes and finally the settings. Of all the things in here, our personal favorite is the “Voice” mode to take pictures. When this option is activated, you can say “Cheese” and 8 out of 10 times it does make a click – how cool is that! No more worries about shaky hands or getting things wrong when you have an excited group to click. Overall focusing and processing are snappy.
The front camera is a 24MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. Its key highlight is the bokeh and boy, it does it so well. While other phones struggle to process the overall image in portrait modes, the V7 is all breezy here. In terms of the accuracy too, it is being very good. There are no obvious mis-blurs that we saw. That good performance continues in low light as well, thanks to the “moonlight flash” it has. If we had to nitpick, we would say it does not handle too much of light very well. And there is some noise observed as well. And for the ones who love to see themselves like movie stars painted with layers of makeup, the beauty mode is just what the beauty parlor ordered. The overall dynamic range and white balance are good as well. All of this continues into the videos via the front shooter and for those who are looking at experimenting with vlogging, this may be a good start. And if you have a big group, the Group Selfie options helps take a landscape selfie!
The rear camera is a 16MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture, supported with PDAF and autofocus. Daylight pictures tend to get a little blown out if there is too much of light and colors tend to go a little off, and there is quite a bit of noise seeping in as the lights go low. Overall, the pictures are good enough for social media sharing and get the job done. The front camera beats it by a huge margin, of course, – the V7 is a selfie camera phone!
Scoring on sound
iMusic is what the music player on the V7 is called. Is very minimalistic when it comes to the set of options present. The key highlight is the “DeepField” setting. The player attempts to mimic a 360-degree effect and this is easier to appreciate when you put on some good quality headsets – the effects are truly immersive. For dance lovers, there is the mega bass option and for purists/vocal lovers, the Clear Voice option does a good job in mellowing down the background music and bringing up the vocals and treble a bit. There are some preset modes such as Bathroom and Gym that play around with the treble and bass to provide a better experience based on the environment you may be in.
A “sound” and snappy investment
With one of the best selfie shooters in its range and an enriching music experience, the Vivo V7 is surely a great option for those who love snapping themselves and listening to music. The taller display aspect ratio and an operating system filled with options only spice up the offering, making the Vivo V7 definitely one of the best options to consider if you are the sound and selfie type and have a budget in the range of Rs 15,000 – 20,000.
