In Summary

WebP is an image file format from Google designed with the idea of improving page loading speeds and reducing bandwidth consumption. While WebP is supported by many operating systems and programs these days, you may still run into issues if you use it on many programs and online services. Hence, converting the WebP images into traditional formats, like JPG, before using them elsewhere is a wise idea.

If you’re on a Mac, you can use Preview to open WebP images with no problem. However, there are instances when WebP images can run you into issues.
